Mobile carrier KT said Thursday that it has signed an agreement with the National Information Society Agency to join a development consulting project to build a state-run National Data Center in Brunei.

Through the project, Brunei will be able to establish an information center to hold and process industrial data. The total consulting expenses for building the NDC in the Southeast Asian state amount to about 2.8 billion won ($2.6 million), the mobile carrier said.

KT added that the consulting project was finally confirmed in November, and will be carried out by a consortium of KT and Malaysian consulting firm Alliance Geotechnical Services.

Under the KT-NIA memorandum of understanding, the NIA will transfer two environment-friendly tech solutions ― “Green IT Maturity Model Integration” and “Green Internet Data Center” ― to KT.

KT will then use these solutions to make blueprints for the establishment, development and management of Brunei’s NDC.

The MOU is an extension of the information technology cooperation pact that Korea and Brunei signed in 2010. The two nations have been running a separate IT cooperation commission since then.

KT said the consulting is a model example of state-company cooperation on global business, and showed eagerness for active participation in overseas deals for building technological infrastructure.
