A man who has been in a coma for 10 months showed the first sign of recovery after hearing his fiancee’s voice on the phone.

Mathew Taylor, 31, who was hurt in a motorbike crash last summer, shed tears, according to his family, when his girlfriend, Anda Nurul, 27, spoke him from Bali.

“Anda asked him something and he seemed to say a silent ‘yes’. Then tears were coming down his face. It was brilliant,” said Simon Moore, Taylor’s stepfather.

Taylor’s family has heard that Taylor might never recover from the coma, but he showed a spark of recognition during the phone call.

Taylor and Nurul met on the Indonesian island where Taylor taught English. Nurul came to the U.K. after the accident, but had to go back Bali because her visa expired.

Luke Griggs, the communication manager of Headway, a brain injury charity, said Taylor could recover.

혼수 상태에서 약혼녀의 목소리를 듣고 10개월만에 회복의 조짐을 보이는 남자가 화제가 되고 있다.

지난 여름 오토바이 사고를 당한 영국인 매튜 테일러는 발리에 있는 약혼녀와의 전화 통화 중 눈물을 흘렸다고 한다.

매튜의 아버지 사이먼 무어는 약혼녀 안다가 전화로 매튜에게 무엇인가 얘기 했고 매튜는 무언의 대답을 하는 것처럼 보였다고 말했다.

원래 매튜는 혼수상태에서 깨어나지 못 할 수 있다는 진단을 받았다. 매튜의 약혼녀는 사고 직후 영국으로 왔지만 비자가 만료 돼 발리로 돌아가야 했다.

영국의 외상성 뇌손상 협회의 루크 그릭스에 따르면 매튜는 회복 될 수 있다고 한다.
