Pop star Psy donated an undisclosed amount of money to fight world poverty and famine to the United Nations, his American agency Universal Republic Records said Friday.
The star of “Gangnam Style” was reportedly impressed by the international organization’s endeavor to make the world a better place when he met the U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in October last year.
The money was donated to the United Nations Secretary General Trust Fund to be used for Millennium Development Goals, which range from halving extreme poverty rates to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015.
Psy, who is currently promoting worldwide for his latest single, “Gentleman,” said in April that he will donate all the proceeds from his online album sales, which is estimated at around 500 million won, to charities that benefit children with cancer.
