A young girl from Cypress, Texas set off on a 921-mile trip to meet an online friend she met playing a video game, according to news sources.
Beth Robinson was playing "Call of Duty," an Xbox Live game, when she met a 12-year-old boy named “Dylan.” After creating a friendship, Beth decided to meet him at his home in Hodgenville, Tennessee, which was 921 miles away from home. She took her brother’s car and an ATM card before sneaking out at around 4 a.m. on Thursday.
But authorities now believe that “Dylan” may have been a child predator pretending to be a young boy to attract Beth.
Her parents found her missing on Thursday morning and looked though her cell phone she left behind. That was when they found out about “Dylan.” Her mother Tressa Robinson said that the text and voice mail messages left by him were “very alarming.” They came to the conclusion that Beth was trying to visit him.
After Beth’s parents notified the police, the girl was quickly found in Nashville, Tennessee. She had been taking out money with the ATM card to switch the license plate of the car. Mrs. Robinson did not believe her 13-year-old could have been clever enough to come up with such an elaborate plan, and said she thought the girl was “coerced.”
When Beth’s father Robbie picked up his daughter in Nashville, he decided to take her to see “Dylan.” He wanted to chaperone any meeting between the two children. However, after searching for hours, the Robinsons were not able to find “Dylan.” Authorities are now trying to find the true identity of “Dylan.”
Beth and “Dylan” met on "Call of Duty," a rated “mature” game which has Internet access, allowing users to meet and talk with new people. The Xbox had been in Beth’s bedroom but has now been moved to the family room, so her parents can keep an eye on Beth’s usage. Beth’s mom urges all parents to do the same.
