"Our vision is to help globalize South Korean football and to share happiness through the sport," Park said through a statement.

"We will develop and run charity programs that can help us engage in football diplomacy."

   Park, who plays for Manchester United in the English Premier League, recently retired from international play after appearing in 100 games for South Korea.

   The first event for the JS Foundation will be a charity football match in Vietnam on June 15. The game will be titled "Asian Dream Cup" and will feature active and retired football stars from South Korea and other Asian countries.

   Current South Korean national team players, such as Lee Chung-yong of Bolton Wanderers in England and Ki Sung-yueng of Celtic FC in Scotland, will play in the charity game, as well as retired Japanese footballer Hidetoshi Nakata.

   Aside from charity matches, the foundation will provide scholarships to young players and run fundraising events to help youth football across Asia.

   "I've thought long and hard about helping football in my country and the rest of Asia," Park said. "This will be a new start in my football life."

'박지성 재단' 출범..6월15일 베트남서 자선 축구

추신수 장미란 김흥국 등 스포츠·연예계 스타 발기인 참여

    (서울=연합뉴스) 이영호 기자 = 축구대표팀 유니폼을 반납한  박지성(30.맨체스 터 유나이티드)이 자선재단 '제이에스 파운데이션(이하 박지성 재단)'을 설립하고 사회공헌사업을 시작한다.

    박지성이 이사장을 맡은 '박지성 재단'은 7일 "한국 축구의 세계화와 축구를 통 한 행복 나눔을 비전으로 삼아 축구 외교를 펼칠 수 있는 다양한 자선 프로그램을 개발해 실천할 계획"이라고 밝혔다.

    지난해 7월 문화체육관광부로부터 재단 설립 인가를 받은 박지성 재단에는 미국 프로야구 메이저리그에서 활약하는 추신수(클리블랜드)와 역도 영웅  장미란(고양시 청)을 비롯해 프로농구 전주 KCC를 이끄는 허재 감독과 영화배우 정준호, 김선아, 가수 김흥국 등 스포츠와 연예계 스타들이 발기인으로 나섰다.

    박지성 재단은 첫 번째 사업으로 오는 6월15일 베트남에서 박지성을 포함한  국 내외 유명 축구 선수들이 참가하는 자선 경기인 '아시안 드림컵'을 개최하기로 했다 .

    아시안 드림컵에는 이청용(볼턴)과 기성용(셀틱) 등 유럽에서 활약하는  태극전 사들과 현역에서 은퇴한 일본의 축구스타 나카타 히데도시 등 전ㆍ현직 일본 대표팀 선수들도 참가할 예정이다.

    박지성 재단은 이번 행사를 통해 동남아시아 각국 축구협회와 지속적인 교류를 하면서 유소년 축구 지원 사업을 펼치는 청사진을 마련했다.

    아울러 어려운 환경에서 운동하는 유소년과 청소년 축구 선수를 위한 장학금 지 원과 다양한 자선기금 모금행사도 펼치기로 했다.

    박지성은 "한국과 아시아 축구에 도움을 줄 방법을 오랫동안 준비한 끝에  재단 을 설립하게 됐다"며 "내 축구 인생의 또 다른 출발점이자 종착점이 될 것 같다"고 말했다.

    그는 "축구를 통해 세상이 더불어 나누고 함께 성장할 방법을 고민하면서 의미 있는 사업을 전개하겠다"고 덧붙였다.
