Kwon Gee-chan to receive Italian Order of Merit

Kwon Gee-chan, CEO of Wearfun International Co. and chairman of Opera Gallery Seoul, will receive the Italian Order of Merit, one of the highest honors given by the Italian government, for his contribution to introducing Italian fashion and art to Koreans.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place at the residence of the Italian Ambassador in Seoul on Saturday. Italian Ambassador Sergio Mercuri will give out the award on behalf of Italian President Giorgio Napolitano.

Kwon, one of the leading businessmen in the luxury fashion and art market in Korea, has brought more than 20 Italian fashion brands to Korea such as Colombo, Gianfranco Ferre, Iceberg, Pinko and Cerruti.

While running Opera Gallery Seoul, Kwon has introduced Italian masterpieces and contemporary artwork to the Korean art market, including works by Amedeo Modigliani, Lucio Fontana and contemporary artist Matteo Sbaragli.

In 2006, Kwon received the French Order of Merit for his contribution to cultural exchanges between Korea and France. In 2004, Kwon received a presidential citation in recognition of his contribution to the luxury goods market in Korea.
