Usain Bolt has expressed his hopes to play soccer after retiring from his track career. In usual fashion, he confidently said that he had the potential to play for Manchester United.

"I really want to try soccer after I retire because I’ve watched football over the years and I think I could be a good contender," Bolt told the BBC.

"I’m really looking forward to it and yes, I definitely think I’m good enough to play for Manchester United.

"I’m good enough because I’m quick, I have a little skill — I have to refine it a little bit but I should be good enough."

The 2008 Beijing Olympics sprinter achieved stardom by setting records in both the 100 and 200 meter races, and he thinks that he can give that similar type of impact with ManU. He even visited Old Trafford in 2009 and gave Crisitano Ronaldo several sprinting tips.

Bolt is running on a busy schedule with the London Olympics only a year away. But he is focusing on more recent events such as his 200 metre race at Thursday's Diamond League meeting in Oslo.

맨유의 팬으로 알려진 볼트는 이날 노르웨이 오슬로에서 열린 다이아몬드리그 남자 200ｍ에 출전한 뒤 "나는 훌륭한 축구 선수가 될 수 있다고 생각한다"며 맨유에서 뛸만한 기량을 충분히 갖추고 있다고 자신감을 내비쳤다.

이미 지난해 9월 은퇴 후 축구 선수로 활동하고 싶다는 뜻을 밝혔던 볼트는 "나는 빠르고 개인기도 좀 있다"며 세계 최고 클럽팀 가운데 하나로 꼽히는 맨유에서 축구를 하고 싶다고 강조했다.

볼트는 2009년 훈련 중이던 맨유 선수들을 만나 크리스티아누 호날두에게 잘 달리는 법을 조언하기도 했다.

그는 지난해 9월 인터뷰에서 "앞으로 4년간 더 육상 선수로 뛰겠다"고 말한 바 있다.
