The headquarters of the Sunfull Movement, which campaigns for positive online comments, launched a Winter Olympic cyber cheering squad for Korea and China with People.cn, the online portal of the People’s Daily, China’s state-run newspaper, in Seoul on Thursday.

Korean members of the “Sochi Winter Olympics Korea-China cyber cheering squad” will support the Chinese team during the Winter Olympics with posts on the campaign’s website. Likewise, Chinese members will support South Korea.

The Korean webpage is at sochi.sunfull.or.kr while the Chinese page can be found on the People’s Daily’s portal at korea.people.com.cn.

The Sunfull Movement is an international campaign founded in Korea to fight malicious comments and postings on the Internet and encourage positive and respectful online communication.

“I hope that this campaign will establish a positive cheering culture that encourages athletes from not only Korea but also other countries in line with the true Olympic spirit,” said Professor Min Byoung-chul, chairman and founder of the movement.

“The notion of Koreans cheering for Chinese athletes is quite moving. I hope that Korean athletes will perform well at the Olympics,” said Soh Oak-young, the Chinese student representative from Tianjin Normal University, during the launching ceremony. “I also hope that Korea and China can be good, helpful neighbors to each other.”

The 2014 Winter Olympic Games will kick off Friday and end on Feb. 23 in Sochi.
