The organizers of the 2018PyeongChang Winter Olympics announced on Friday that they have teamed up with international experts in preparations for the opening and closing ceremonies of the multisport competition.

The organizing committee said it has formed an International Consulting Committee, made up of experts with experience in directing past Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies. These experts will work closely with South Korean artists, the committee added.

The consulting group features Russian director Konstantin Ernst, who directed the opening ceremony for the 2014 Winter Games in Russia's Sochi; Don Mischer, an American director in charge of the opening ceremonies at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Games and the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games; David Atkins, who directed the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2000 Summer Olympics in his native Sydney; and Sidney Kimmel, the executive producer of such films as "The Kite Runner" and "Moneyball."

PyeongChang officials said the International Consulting Committee has been interviewing and studying the nominated candidates to serve as the director for the opening and closing ceremonies in PyeongChang.

Cho Yang-ho, president of the organizing committee, declined to say how many candidates are being considered for the job but added the director will be announced on May 16, when the countdown to the 2018 Olympics will reach 1,000 days.  (Yonhap)
