Teen lifts car to save grandpa

A 15-year-old Michigan boy says he has no idea how he was able to lift a 900 kilogram Buick enough for his grandfather to escape from underneath.

Austin Smith said he was working on the 1991 Buick with his grandfather, Ernest "Papa Ernie" Monhollen, at his grandparents' Ida Township home Saturday when the car fell from the cinder blocks holding it up and trapped Monhollen underneath, WDIV-TV, Detroit, reported Tuesday.

"I was just so scared," Smith said. "I didn't know what to do."

Smith said he instinctively grabbed the front end of the 900-kilogram car and was able to lift it enough for his grandfather to get out.

"Probably all the adrenaline," Smith said of how he was able to lift the car. "I mean, I couldn't do it right now."

Monhollen was treated for a serious cut to his face, fractured ribs and a fractured eye socket.

"Thank God he was here because if it was just me and his grandmother it would have been over. That would have been it," Monhollen said. (UPI)

할아버지 살리려고 차 번쩍!

미국에서 한 15세 소년이 차에 깔린 할아버지를 살리기 위해 1톤에 가까운 자동차를 들어올려 화제가 되고 있다.

UPI통신이 21일 (현지시간) 보도한 바에 따르면, 미시건에 사는 어니 몬홀런 씨는 손자 오스틴 스미스와 함께 1991년 형 뷰익을 수리하던 도중, 지지대가 빠지면서 차 밑에 깔리고 말았다.

그러자 오스틴은 “본능적으로” 900 킬로그램에 달하는 차의 앞 부분을 잡고 들어올려 할아버지가 빠져나올 수 있게 도왔다.

오스틴은 겁이 나 어쩔 줄 몰랐다면서 괴력을 발휘할 수 있었던 이유는 흥분상태에서 뿜어져 나온 아드레날린 때문일 것이라고 말했다.

몬홀런 씨는 얼굴이 베이고 여기저기 골절을 입었지만 오스틴이 있어서 천만다행이라며 안도의 한숨을 내쉬었다.
