Partial solar eclipse dims sky

A partial solar eclipse was witnessed across the world on Sunday and Monday.

In Seoul, the event started around 6:23 a.m. and ended around 8:48 p.m., peaking at 7:32 a.m., when 80 percent of the Sun was covered.

It was the first time since January 2010 that a partial eclipse was witnessed in South Korea.

Some people in western United States and southern Japan were able to witness an extremely rare ‘ring’ solar eclipse, in which the moon blocks out all but a ring of the Sun’s light.

'해를 품은 달', 일식 전국서 관측

달이 태양을 가리는 우주쇼인 부분일식 현상이 오늘 아침 전국에서 관측되었다.

서울에서는 오전 6시 23분부터 부분일식이 시작돼 7시 32분에 태양의 최대 80% 정도가 가려져 절정에 이른 뒤 8시 48분에 끝났다.

한국에서 부분일식이 관측된 것은 지난 2010년 1월 15일 부분일식 이후 3년 만에 처음이다.

또, 일본 남부 지역과 미국 서부지역 등지에서는 해가 반지처럼 보이는 금환일식 현상이 관측되었다.

우리나라에서 관측 가능한 다음 일식은 앞으로 4년 뒤인 2016년 3월로 예상된다.
