[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics plans to transform its appellation system starting next month under the slogan “Start-up Samsung,” according to local reports on June 20.
The initiative aims to get rid of designations and boost the atmosphere to share ideas freely among workers.
The company is currently conducting a survey on employees regarding the new system. The survey provides four alternatives: adding “Nim” -- which refers to “sir” in Korea -- “pro” or “manager” at the end of a name, or using English names.
Among the four, using English names is more favorable, the company said, reflecting the environment at the company where more than half of its employees are foreigners out of its 30 million workers.
The new appellation system, adopted based on the survey results, will be unveiled in the “personnel renovation roadmap announcement” at the end of this month.
The employee ranking system is to be also reduced to three or four from the present five, the company said.
