The Korea International Comedy Competition is seeking applications from comedians who think they have what it takes to compete in their second annual show this August.

Last year’s competition was held in Seoul and featured 10 comics, with half of them visiting from overseas, being based in China, Japan and the United States.

“I wanted to have an event that put Korea on the Asia comedy scene map,” says Cheonan-based expat Dan Wiberg, who founded the competition.

“I also felt that something like a competition would be a really fun and exciting challenge to do, and it definitely was.”

Due to last year’s turnout which had the venue at capacity, the competition will be held over two nights this year, Aug. 28 and 29.

It will also have a new location, after performer Paul Smith, who traveled from the U.S. to compete last year, opened Korea’s first expat stand-up comedy club, the O’Lounge Comedy Club in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.

The 2015 show already has applications from comics in Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan. The winner will take home 500,000 won ($440) in prize money and get the chance to feature as support for a touring professional comic.
