Apple Inc. has removed its YouTube app from its latest beta version of iOS 6, with the Cupertino, Calif., company saying its license from Google has expired.

The app will not be included in the next version of its mobile operating system for the iPhone and iPad, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

Since the iPhone went on sale in 2007, Apple‘s YouTube app has come pre-installed on the company’s mobile devices.

It‘s the latest sign of a growing gulf in the relations between Apple and Google, which have been strained as Google began taking on Apple with its own Android mobile operating system.

Apple has already removed Google Maps in iOS 6, expected to be released this fall, in favor of its own mapping app.

Although iOS 6 will not come with an Apple YouTube app, users will still be able to access YouTube through Apple’s Safari browser. Google is reportedly working on its own YouTube app that will be available through Apple‘s app store. (UPI)

애플 iOS6에 더 이상 유투브는 없다?

애플이 자사의 모바일 운영체제인 iOS의 최신 베타버전에서 유튜브 어플리케이션을 삭제했다고 월스트리트저널이 지난 월요일 보도했다.

보도에 따르면 애플의 모바일 기기인 아이폰과 아이패드에 사용되는 운영체제인 iOS의 최신 베타버전 iOS6에서는 구글과 애플 간의 라이센스 유효기간이 만료됨에 따라 유투브 어플리케이션(이하 앱)이 포함되지 않을 예정이다.

이번 유투브 앱의 삭제 조치는 구글이 자사의 모바일 운영체제인 안드로이드 OS를 통해 애플과 경쟁하는 가운데 악화일로에 있는 두 기업의 관계를 반영하고 있다.

애플은 이미 올 가을 출시예정인 iOS6의 정식버전에서 “구글지도” 앱을 삭제하고 자사가 개발한 지도 앱으로 이를 대체하기로 결정한 바 있다

그러나 사용자들은 iOS6에 유투브 앱이 포함되는가의 여부와 관계없이 아이폰의 기본 인터넷 브라우저인 “사파리”를 이용해 유투브를 이용할 수 있다. 구글은 애플의 앱스토어에 별도의 유투브 앱을 내놓기 위해 개발작업 중인 것으로 알려졌다. (코리아헤럴드)
