The government-run Korea Internet Security Agency on Tuesday said it signed a memorandum of understanding with FireEye, a U.S.-based security company specializing in fighting cyber crimes, to help keep Korea’s Internet environment safer and free of attacks.
“The two sides will be sharing solutions and other security information to jointly challenge cyber threats and malware that have become borderless crimes occurring all over the world,” said Lee Ki-joo, president of KISA.
He stressed that it was essential for Korea to form a real information sharing system to prevent cyber threats and crimes that were becoming more advanced with time.
He said FireEye was the ideal partner, as the company was seen to be a leader in stopping cyber attacks and was equipped with a virtual machine-based platform that provided real-time threat protection to global organizations.
FireEye said Korea was the second country in the world following the U.S. to experience cyber crimes, while Korean companies are the most commonly hit by such threats, chiefly because of Korea’s high IT advancement, the firm said.
