SK Hynix, the world’s second-largest memory chip maker, on Sunday said it had resumed partial operations at its Wuxi plant in China that was hit by a fire last week.

The blaze caused the chipmaker to suspend its operations at the plant. No casualties were reported but the company said it was investigating the exact cause.

One of the production lines that had been left untouched by the fire began operations as of Saturday after completing safety inspections, SK Hynix said.

The company added it was continuing its inspection on the restoration of a line that was partly damaged by the fire, in cooperation with the Chinese government.

“We will continue to make every effort to minimize the impact on supply with our inventories of finished products and completely processed wafers, as well as production support from our (Korean) headquarters,” the chipmaker said in a statement, adding that it has dispatched experts from Korea to establish a restoration system with partner firms.

SK Hynix currently produces dynamic random-access memory chips for mobile devices and computers, and it is currently the No. 2 supplier next to Samsung Electronics. Apple Inc. is among the company’s clients.

The Wuxi plant is where SK Hynix produces 29 nm DRAM products. The plant’s supplies account for almost half of the firm’s DRAM production capability, according to industry figures.
