Dongbu Daewoo Electronics Corp. has opened its 100th store in China, having first entered the market in July, company officials said Monday.
At the opening ceremony for the store held in the city of Hangzhou on Saturday, the Korean electronics firm also unveiled new home appliances including the Classe Cube, a three-door refrigerator with space to store tea leaves, which has been specifically designed for Chinese consumers.
Around 200 officials from the Chinese electronics industry participated in the event at the First World Resort Hotel, the Korean firm said in a press release.
The electronics firm, which now runs 15 stores in Shanghai, 20 in Beijing and 65 in Hangzhou, aims to appeal to Chinese consumers with large-capacity products, a premium image and localization, it said.
“Dongbu Daewoo Electronics has been able to build a worldwide brand with a localization strategy for the past 30 years. We will succeed again in the Chinese market with measures that fit the local culture,” said Kim Young-hwan, chief of the firm’s Chinese sales department.
“The firm will set up more stores in other areas, including Tianjin and Harbin.”
Dongbu Group, a Korean conglomerate involved in an array of businesses including construction, steel and finance, acquired Daewoo Electronics in January before rebranding it with the Dongbu Daewoo name.
