13-year-old boy who got AIDS through sex is youngest ever

TAIPEI--A 13 year-old boy has become the youngest person to become infected with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) through sexual intercourse, according to health officials.

It is suspected that the boy became infected while working part- time for a 50 year-old male, who lured him into sex with money, said Lin Ting, deputy director-general at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

The boy was visiting an adolescent center when he tested positive for AIDS, Lin said, adding that the CDC had traced the source of transmission to the older man, whose test also came back positive.

Lin noted that young boys were referred to as “Sky Food,” or delicious food falling from the sky, by adult homosexuals on the internet, who seek ways of enticing boys either with money or other incentives.

According to statistics compiled last year, the number of young people contracting the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has continued to rise in Taiwan.

Compared to 2009, 13.3 percent more cases were diagnosed among those aged between 15 and 24 years old, the deputy director-general said. As of today, there are 55 cases where victims are under 19 years old.

Lin pointed out that sexual encounters and drug injections are the two major routes of infection. With the HIV/AIDS population in Taiwan standing at 20,057, and 65.9 percent of those with the disease were infected by engaging in sexual practices and 32.2 percent through intravenous drug use.

As more HIV/AIDS-positive homosexuals are spreading the disease through unsafe sex, the CDC has established health websites and homosexual centers in Hsinchu, Taichung and Kaohsiung to combat the dangerous trend.

대만에서 불과 13세 소년이 성행위를 통해 에이즈에 걸린 최연소 환자로 기록됐다고 행정원 위생서(署) 질병통제국이 31일 밝혔다.

이 소년은 50대 남자 사장을 위해 아르바이트 일을 하던 기간 돈으로 유혹한 그 와 성행위를 하여 에이즈에 감염된 것으로 추정된다고 린딩(林頂) 부국장이 밝혔다.

소년과 사장이 나란히 에이즈 양성 반응이 나타났으며 어린 소년들이 성인 동성애자들에 의해 '천채'(天菜.하늘에서 내려온 맛있는 음식)로 대만 웹사이트들에서 자주 지칭되고 있다고 린딩 부국장은 밝혔다.

대만 에이즈 환자와 HIV(에이즈 바이러스) 감염자들은 지난해 12월말 현재 2만5 7명이며, 원인별로는 ▲성행위 65.9%(남성 동성애 44%, 이성애 21.9%) ▲정맥 마약 주사 주사 32.2%로 나타났다고 린 부국장은 말했다.

연령별로는 19세 이하가 55명이고, 20∼29세 38.3%, 30∼39세 35.1%로 드러났다 고 린 부국장은 말했다.

작년의 경우 15∼24세 사이 에이즈 환자와 HIV 감염자들이 2009년보다 13.3%가 늘어나는 등 젊은이들 사이에서 증가하고 있다.

질병통제국은 남성 동성애자 사이에서 에이즈가 퍼지는 것을 예방하기 위해 전 국적 웹사이트 '성치발발'(性緻勃勃.http://www.enjoysex.org.tw) 등을 개설했으며, 북부 신주(新竹), 중부 타이중(臺中), 남부 가오슝(高雄)에 남성 동성애자 건강센터 를 설치해 위험한 성행위를 하지 않도록 적극 계도하고 있다.
