Two S. Koreans wounded after being shot in Paraguay: officials

Two South Koreans were seriously wounded after they were shot by unidentified gunmen in the city of Lambare, Paraguay, last week, foreign ministry officials said.

The pair, identified only by their surnames Lee and Jeong, were returning home from work on Friday (local time) when gunmen on motorcycles approached them and shot them, the officials said.

The victims remain in serious condition while the motive for the shooting had yet to be found, the officials here said late Saturday, adding the assailants fled the scene after the attack.

The South Koreans suffered gunshot wounds to the chest, head and backbone, the officials said. An investigation by local police is under way, they added. (Yonhap News)

지난 11일(현지시간) 오후 6시40분께 파라과이수도 아순시온 인근 람바레시에서 우리 국민 이모씨와 정모씨가 무장괴한에 의해 총격을 당하는 사건이 발생했다고 외교통상부가 12일 밝혔다.

외교 당국자는 "범인들은 사건직후 도주했으며 아직까지 체포하지 못한 상태"라며 "정확한 범행동기는 확인되지 않고 있다"고 말했다.

주 파라과이 대사관은 사건접수 즉시 담당영사를 병원으로 파견, 피해자 가족들을 위로한데 이어 현지 경찰에 대해서는 우리 교민을 대상으로 강력사건이 발생한데 대해 깊은 유감을 표시하고 신속.공정한 수사와 조속한 범인 검거를 당부했다. (연합뉴스)
