The Israeli Embassy is bringing seven award-winning Israeli films to Seoul for screenings starting from Tuesday at the Seoul Art Cinema in Insa-dong.

All seven films received accolades at prestigious film festivals from around the world, such as Cannes in France, Berlin in Germany and Sundance in the United States. The films will be shown until Nov. 17.

A screening of “Footnote” (2011) will open the series. Directed by Joseph Cedar, the film weaves a tale of rivalry between father and son. Eliezer and Uriel Shkolnik are eccentric professors who have dedicated their lives to their work in Talmudic Studies.

Then one day, the senior Eliezer learns that he is to be awarded the Israel Prize, the most esteemed honor for scholarship in the country. The honor, however, also exposes his vanity, as well as his desperate need for validation.

His son, Uriel, is thrilled to see his father’s achievements finally recognized but, in a darkly funny twist, is forced to choose between the advancement of his own career and his father’s.
