Japan intends to be launching astronauts into space aboard a manned capsule by 2017, officials with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency say.

The proposed capsule or mini-shuttle would carry a crew of three and deliver up to 880 pounds of cargo into orbit to destinations such as the International Space Station.

The capsule, which would be similar in capacity to the U.S. SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, is being proposed in two versions: a 15,400-pound design that would use parachutes for return to Earth, and a 19,800-pound version equipped with a maneuverable parafoil to provide greater control with resultant landing accuracy to within 1.9 miles.

While the lighter capsule would need to make ocean landing, the heavier parafoil version could land on solid ground, JAXA officials said.

Development of the recoverable capsules would begin in 2013 with first flights envisioned for 2017, they said.

“This year on these [manned] technologies we are spending $600,000,” and requests have been submitted for additional funding, Kuniaki Shiraki, JAXA‘s executive director of human space systems told SPACE.com. (UPI)

일본, 유인우주선 발사 계획 드러내

일본이 2017년 전까지 유인우주캡슐을 쏠 계획이라고 일본우주탐사학회(Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency)가 전했다.

캡슐 혹은 미니 셔틀의 형태가 될 것이며, 승무원 세 명을 태우고 400kg가량의 짐을 국제우주정거장 등의 목적지까지 운반할 수 있다고 한다.

미국 스페이스X 드래곤 우주선과 비슷한 본 캡슐은 두 가지 버전 중 하나를 택할 방침이다. 지구로 돌아올 때 낙하산을 이용하게 될 7,000kg 상당의 우주선 혹은 착륙거리오차를 3km 내로 좁힐 수 있는 조종가능한 낙하산(패러포일)이 달린 9,000kg 상당의 우주선 중 고민 중이다.

7,000kg의 우주선이 바다에 착륙할 수도 있는 반면 패러포일을 포함한 우주선은 땅에 착륙할 수 있다고 JAXA가 전했다.

2013년에 최초 시험 비행이 시행될 예정이다.

"올해 이 기술을 개발하는 데 60만 달러(6억 5천만원 가량) 들었습니다."라고 JAXA 유인우주시스템 부서의 총 책임자인 쿠니아키 시라키(Kuniaki Shiraki)가 SPACE.com에 말했다. 그들은 펀드를 추가적으로 모집하고 있다. (코리아헤럴드)
