BELEK, Turkey ― TCL, a global leader in television production under the Thomson brand, said it is preparing for what could be the next big trends in the market: curved TVs and the 8K.

“For sure, the 8K TV is a logical step,” said Antoine Salome, marketing director in Europe for TCL, which participated in the IFA Global Press Conference 2014 held here from last Thursday to Sunday.

The director expected that all factories of the firm would likely produce the panels for 8K ultrahigh-definition TVs down the road, hinting that it would step up efforts for the high-resolution TV product.

The 8K UHD TV (7,680x4,320) offers a resolution that is 16 times higher than an HD TV.

He also unveiled the company’s plan to produce a curved screen ultrahigh-definition TV, featuring a 65-inch curved screen with 3,840x2,160 resolution, built-in Wi-Fi and various smart functions.

The curved UHD TV will be introduced during the IFA 2014, an electronics trade show to be held from Sept. 5-10.

The Chinese TV maker will showcase a 65-inch curved LED UHD TV and a jumbo-size curved UHD TV during the trade show.

TCL, which the director said is investing in organic light-emitting diode technology, will have its new factory in China ready to roll out liquid crystal display and OLED panels by 2015.

According to the firm, around 70 percent of the production capacity will be used for LCD panels and the rest for OLED panels.

He forecast the OLED TV market would likely take off when the firm becomes capable of producing the products at much lower prices.
