LG Display Co. saw its net profit soar 143.3 percent in the second quarter from a year earlier, data showed Wednesday, as the rising price of TV panels overwhelmed sluggish sales of panels for smartphones and tablet PCs.
Net profit reached 256 billion won ($250 million) in the second quarter, compared with 105.2 billion won on-year, LG Display said in a regulatory filing. The figure also marked a turnaround from a net loss of 81.9 billion won in the January-March period.
Sales dropped 9 percent on-year to 5.9 trillion won in the April-June period, with operating profit dropping 55.4 percent to 163 billion won from 365.9 billion won a year ago.
Market watchers earlier estimated the panel maker’s net profit at 77.4 billion won, according to the data compiled from 17 brokerage houses by Yonhap Infomax. (Yonhap)
