Lee Sang-chul, the vice chairman of LG Uplus, the third-largest mobile carrier in South Korea, has pledged the telecom firm would be fully prepared for the 5G network era, which heralds massive connectivity and processing complexity.

“LG Uplus will put focus on delivering new values, including safety improvement, cost saving, time management and emotional care, to customers in the 5G era,” said Lee in his speech at the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference on Monday.

“The firm will make utmost efforts to help carve out new lifestyles by helping each of our customers better communicate in a safe and comfortable environment,” he added.

The vice chairman forecast that the number of connected IT devices would reach 20 billion, five times more than in 2010, and 100 billion in 2020.

“Telecommunications devices which are now being integrated with glasses and watches will be further intertwined with other devices in various fields, such as smart homes, smart cities and robots,” he said.

Addressing challenges in the face of the 5G era, such as high-speed networks, precise sensors, development of artificial intelligence, and safe clouding systems, will be also among the firm’s first priorities, he added.

The third-largest mobile carrier, meanwhile, unveiled a personal broadcasting service system based on Long Term Evolution-Advanced networks.

Through the broadcasting system, smartphone users can live-stream full-HD videos to share the recorded videos with others.
