SK hynix Inc., South Korea's No. 2 chipmaker, said Tuesday it has developed a non-volatile memory module with the highest density in the industry, further enhancing data stability and restoration.

The 16-gigabyte, non-volatile Dual In-line Memory Module(NVDIMM) is based on 4 gigabit dynamic random access memory (DRAM) that adopts 20 nano-level technology at a processing speed of 17 gigabytes per second through 64 I/Os (input/output), the company said in a statement.

The NVDIMM is a key memory technology that combines DRAM and NAND flash to save and restore data in the computer server against any unexpected power loss or system crash.

The new NVDIMM ensures the same level of data security as general DRAM modules, supported by density two times higher that that of the existing DRAMs, it added.

SK hynix said the company plans to start mass production of the improved memory chip from the first half of next year.

In April, the South Korean chip giant developed a 128-gigabyte DDR4 module, the highest density among such modules, which has been certified by Intel Corp. (Yonhap)
