미국 최대의 아울렛으로 유명한 뉴욕 우드베리 커먼스 도로 인근에서 한인 여성으로 추정되는 50대 여성의 유골이 발견돼 충격을 주고 있다.

지난 10일 웨스트체스터 지역 TV인 뉴스 12는 “우드베리 커먼스 주차장 건너편 터너 로드 옆 숲에서 두명의 젊은이가 유골을 발견했다”고 전했다.

그 이후 최근 조사를 통해 유골이 50대 아시안 여성이며 현장에서 한국 진통제 ‘사리돈’ 7정과 화장품 ‘수려한’의 쇼핑백이 발견된 사실이 알려지면서 한인 여성의 살해 사건일 가능성이 대두되고 있다.

우드베리 타운 경찰서의 마이크 바우어 형사는 28일 뉴욕 중앙일보와의 인터뷰에서 “피해자가 한인일 가능성이 크지만 신분증 등이 발견되지 않아 신원 파악에 어려움을 겪고 있다”고 밝혔다.

유골 감식 결과 시신은 2년에서 5년 정도 유기된 것으로 추정된다.

한편, 전날 뉴욕 플러싱에서 40대 한인 여성이 차 트렁크에서 숨진 채 발견된 사건에 이은 끔찍한 소식에 뉴욕 한인사회는 충격에 휩싸이고 있다. (코리아 헤럴드)

Remains of woman, possibly Korean, found near Woodbury Outlet in NY

Human remains assumed to be those of an Asian woman were found near one of America’s most popular outlet malls, U.S. media reported.

The reports said two mall workers found a human skeleton in an area near the Woodbury Commons Outlet Mall nearly two weeks ago.

The local police said it was likely that the body is of an Asian woman in her 50s, considering the height and the jewelry and glasses that were discovered at the site.

They also found seven tablets of Korean-brand painkiller Saridon and a shopping bag of a Korean cosmetics brand at the scene.

Police estimate that the remains had been there for two to five years as the body was seriously decomposed.

As it is possible that the body is of a Korean woman, the news is stirring up the Korean-American community. Separately, a Korean woman was found dead in a car trunk in Flushing, New York, on Tuesday.
