The Indian Embassy here celebrated the country’s rich cultural heritage with performances, costumes, film screenings and seminars in a special “India Day” program at Tongmyong University in Busan on Sept. 26.

The celebration took place alongside the university’s annual celebrations. The daylong program showcased a classical Kathak performance and display of Indian artifacts, books and a special screening of the Bollywood hit “Three Idiots.” About 300 students, professors and others attended.

Indian Ambassador Vishnu Prakash delivered a speech on the southern port city’s unique cultural connection with India and South Korean-Indian bilateral relations, including people-to-people ties, to an audience of students, professors and other faculty members of Tongmyong University.

In January, MOUs were signed establishing educational exchanges between Tongmyong University and Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Amity University. A letter of engagement was also inked with Banaras Hindu University.

Several cultural events organized by Tongmyong University and the Indian Cultural Center in Busan are taking place this month, including Yoga and Kathak workshops, Hindi film screenings and an exhibition showcasing traditional Indian dresses, as part of outreach efforts headed by the culture center.
