South Korean President Park Geun-hye called Wednesday for expanding cooperation with the United States in energy and healthcare, saying both sectors offer bright prospects.

Park made the remark in a meeting with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker at the presidential office, Cheong Wa Dae, where the two sides discussed a range of issues, including the global economy, economic policies, entrepreneurship and ways to cooperate in the energy and health sectors, the office said in a news release.

"The energy and health sectors have bright prospects and the South Korean government is paying attention to them, so there is great potential for bilateral cooperation between South Korea and the United States," the office quoted Park as saying.

South Korea has been developing new energy industries such as smart grids and electric cars by using its information and communications technology, Park said.

She also expressed hope for new business opportunities and joint overseas projects in the health sector through close cooperation between the two countries.

Pritzker said her country hopes to contribute to South Korea's efforts to build a "creative economy," one of Park's signature campaigns that calls for creating new business opportunities through the fusion of science, technology, culture and other realms. (Yonhap)
