중국에서 한 남성이 여자친구가 지나치게 쇼핑을 많이 한다면서 말다툼을 하다가 백화점 내부에서 그대로 뛰어내려 사망하는 사건이 발생했다.
데일리 메일이 9일 (현지시간) 보도한 바에 따르면 이 사건은 중국 장쑤성에 위치한 한 쇼핑몰에서 일어났는데, 한 38세 남성이 여자친구와의 쇼핑에 지친 나머지 백화점 7층에서 뛰어내렸다고 한다.
보도에 따르면 이 커플은 무려 다섯 시간동안 쇼핑을 했고, 남성은 “쇼핑백을 더 들수도 없다”며 집에 갈 것을 요구했으나 여성은 “한군데만 더 가자”고 고집했다고 한다.
목격자에 따르면 남성은 “평생 신을 신발을 다 샀겠다”며 가자고 했으나 “여성은 그를 “수전노”라고 욕하면서 그가 크리스마스를 망쳤다고 추궁했다. 결국 남성은 쇼핑백을 바닥에 던져버리고 난간 너머로 몸을 던졌다.
사건 직후 구급차가 현장에 도착했으나, 남성은 추락한 충격으로 즉사한 후였다.
쇼핑몰 측은 “비극적인 사건"이라면서 "매년 이맘때면 많은 사람들이 스트레스를 받는다”고 말했다.

The Daily Mail, citing Chinese reports, reported Monday that the 38-year-old man committed suicide at a shopping mall in Jiangsu province, eastern China, after a shouting match with his girlfriend.
The couple reportedly had been shopping for five hours before the man demanded to go home. According to eyewitnesses, he told his girlfriend that she already had “more shoes that she could wear in a lifetime.”
When she refused to comply, the couple got into a heated argument which concluded in him throwing the shopping bags on the floor and jumping over a balcony. He was instantly killed from the impact of the fall.
