LG Electronics on Wednesday started selling its new dual-load washing machine, Twin Wash, in the U.S. where the Korean tech giant is the No. 1 washer maker in terms of sales.
Starting at Best Buy this month, the LG washer will hit major retailers such as Home Depot and Lowe’s by the end of this year.
The Twin Wash is the industry’s first front-load washing machine that comes attached with an optional smaller washer on the bottom.
The dual-load system allows users to wash two loads of laundry simultaneously or choose one depending on the load and purpose.
Even before the official debut, the company said U.S. retailers showed keen interest in the new product. For earlier supply, the company shipped the first batch of orders by air cargo for the first time.
The company especially pinned high hopes in creating a new high-end segment in the U.S. washer market.
The retail price is $2,500 ― the highest among rivals. Considering many U.S. consumers prefer to purchase a drying machine along with a washer, the final price exceeds $5,000.
In the third quarter, LG topped in the premium front-load washer in the U.S., with a 33.6 percent market share.
“LG will continue to lead the global washer market through innovations best represented by the latest Twin Wash,” said LG’s home appliance division chief and CEO Cho Seong-jin.
