Recent research from the University of Granada in Spain found that people’s emotions could be detected through thermographs, especially when they lie.

The team claimed that when people lie, their nose and the orbit muscles around the eyes show a higher temperature than other parts of the face. The insula (a part of brain that is in charge of consciousness, detection and regulation of body temperature) may have some link to this temperature difference.

In addition, the team has discovered that the facial skin temperature drops while performing a mental task and rises when feeling anxious.

According to a study from International Journal of Electronic Security and Digital Forensics, thermographs can also identify when a person is drunk through perceiving the change of temperature. This is possible because when people are sober, the nose and mouth are hotter than other facial parts.

또한 ‘전자보안과 디지털 법의학’ 저널에 따르면 얼굴 온도에 따라 사람이 취했는지 여부 역시 알 수 있다고 한다. 사람들이 술에 취하지 않은 상태에서는 코와 입의 온도가 얼굴의 다른 부분들보다 높은 것으로 알려져 있다.
