South Korea's top nuclear envoy has met with two senior officials of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and discussed North Korea's recent provocations, the foreign ministry said Thursday.

Kim Gunn, special representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs, met one-on-one with Mircea Geoana, NATO's deputy secretary general, and separately with David Van Weel, assistant secretary general for innovation, hybrid and cyber, at the NATO headquarters in Brussels on Wednesday.

Kim was visiting Brussels this week at the invitation of the European Union.

During Wednesday's talks, Kim and the two NATO officials condemned the North's latest missile provocations and "repeated attempts to destabilize the region," the foreign ministry said in a release.

"The two sides emphasized the importance of close cooperation between South Korea and NATO," the ministry said.

Kim also thanked NATO for continued support and solidarity in relation to North Korean issues. (Yonhap)
