박근혜 대통령을 겨냥한 수위 높은 발언으로 비난을 산 방송인 변서은이 결국 트위터를 탈퇴했다.

지난 18일 한 온라인 커뮤니티에는 변서은이 자신의 페이스북에 남긴 글이 캡처돼 올라왔다. 변서은은 “페북보니 별 개소리가 많다. 민영화해도 지하철비 똑같으니까 타라고? 어이없는 소리”라며 “‘나 대통령인데 너네 집좀 팔거야 너네 차좀 팔거야’ 하는 거랑 똑같은 거야. 지금”이라고 철도 민영화 논란과 관련해 소신을 밝혔다.

이어 “다 우리 부모님들, 조부모님들, 우리네 주머니에서 나간 세금으로 만들어진거야. 그래서 우리 모두의 것이라고. 그걸 지금 개인에게 팔겠다고 하는 거잖아”라며 “그렇게 팔고 싶으면 걍 언니 돈으로 만들어서 팔라고. 국민 세금으로 만든 걸 왜 팔어. 그렇게 팔고 싶으면 몸이나 팔아”라고 일갈했다.

이 글은 SNS 등에서 빠르게 퍼져나가며 논란을 빚었고 변서은은 트위터를 통해 사과의 뜻을 전했다. 그는 “주위 친구들 보라고 쓴 글인데 생각보다 많이 퍼졌네요. 과격한 발언 생각이 짧았고 진심으로 죄송합니다. 거기에 질타하는 방법에 대해서는 꽤나 과격했습니다. 조심하겠습니다”라고 사과했다.

그럼에도 좀처럼 논란이 가라앉지 않자 변서은은 결국 트위터를 탈퇴했다. 현재 변서은의 포털사이트 프로필에 연계된 트위터 계정은 삭제된 것으로 확인됐다. 당초 문제의 글을 올렸던 페이스북 계정도 삭제한 것으로 알려졌다.

TV personality apologizes for offensive comments

South Korean TV personality Byun Seo-eun apologized Wednesday for an offensive comment she made on Facebook that appeared to target President Park Geun-hye.

“I am so sorry. I was not thinking thoroughly. I will accept criticism with humility,” she said via Twitter.

Earlier in the day, Byun expressed her opposition toward the privatization of the country’s railroads.

“Why are you selling something that the people had paid for? If you want to sell so much, sell your body,” she wrote on Facebook. Selling one’s body is an idiom used for prostitution.

The comment is suspected to have been directed at President Park and touched off a barrage of criticism.

Last week, the workers at the state-run Korea Railroad Corp began a strike in protest against a government decision to set up a KORAIL subsidiary to control a new KTX line, which is suspected will ultimately lead to privatization of the railroads.
