INCHEON (Yonhap) ― South Korea will face its archrival Japan in the women’s volleyball competition at the upcoming Asian Games at home.

At the draw ceremony in the Asiad host of Incheon, west of Seoul, on Thursday, South Korea drew Japan, Thailand and India in Group A.

Japan defeated South Korea for the bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics. South Korea last won an Asiad gold in 1994, and fell to China in the final at the 2010 competition.

China, which has won the last four women’s gold medals in Asiads, drew Kazakhstan, Maldives, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

The men’s volleyball team will face Qatar, Kazakhstan and Taiwan in Group A. South Korea won the Asiad titles in 2002 and 2006, but settled for bronze in 2010.

In men’s basketball, South Korea will face Jordan and one of the qualifying nations in Group D.

The women’s hoops squad, based on rankings from the previous Asiad, received a bye to the quarters, where it will face one of the qualifiers.

In men’s handball, South Korea, the defending champ, drew Japan, India and Taiwan in Group D.
