Cable TV operator CJ HelloVision said Thursday that it has signed a partnership deal with Vietnamese cable TV firm Saigontourist Cable Television, or SCTV, to export its broadcasting technology to Vietnam.

Through the partnership, the Korean cable TV company will introduce its cloud-based broadcasting solutions, gigabit Internet services, UHD TV broadcasting technology and N-Screen -- a service which makes media content available on any digital device -- in Vietnam’s pay TV segment for the next five years.

It is the first time that a Korean broadcasting platform operator has infiltrated the Vietnamese market.

SCTV is the largest Vietnamese pay TV firm with 2.5 million subscribers.

Besides the areas of broadcasting and network technology, the two partners will also conduct joint projects for human resource development and run exchange programs.

“I hope the collaboration can create growth momentum for CJHV and other pay firms in the Asian market,” said Kim Jin-seok, the chief executive of CJHV, at the signing ceremony of the partnership agreement in Seoul on Wednesday.

“It is regretful that the delayed merger and acquisition with IPTV firm SK Broadband has stoked concerns over business management, but CJHV could not postpone the partnership that it has prepared for a long time,” he added.

The Korean cable TV company is waiting for the government approval regarding the M&A between CJHV and SK Broadband. Since SKB announced late last year it would take over and merge with CJHV, IPTV operators and network firms, including KT and LG Uplus, have objected to the M&A proposal.
