Hyundai Motor Co.’s Solaris subcompact received the top award for its segment in the Golden Klaxon Awards given by the Russian auto publication Klaxon, the carmaker announced Monday.
Based on the Accent, the Solaris is Hyundai’s strategic model for the Russian market that includes Russia-specific features such as windshield and wiper anti-freeze and brake warning systems.

In addition to the award, the company said that its brand recognition in Russia rose to fifth place last year, from the 11th spot recorded in 2009.
Having taken 7.1 percent of Russia’s imported car market in 2010, Hyundai was the fourth largest imported brand in that country.
The top spot was taken by its sister carmaker Kia Motors Corp. with 8.5 percent.
