KT Corp., the country’s biggest wireless Internet zone operator, announced Wednesday that it plans to launch a project to help mobile application developers sell their products overseas.

The “global frontier project” is a measure for the telecom giant to establish mutual growth with smaller venture firms. It supports talented mobile application developers from the development stage to when items are released in the global application store.

Through the program, developers will get professional training on mobile application development, try commercializing their apps in the market and get involved in app marketing, according to company officials.

A total of 100 teams will be chosen to take part in the project.

“We’re starting the global frontier project to actively support one-person venture firms as well as small and mid-sized companies with the assistance of our competitiveness on content development and good overseas partner relationships,” said Hahn Won-sic, senior vice president of the mobile data business bureau at KT.

“We plan to open the first app contest, which will include participants from Korea, Japan and China, by the first half of this year to work toward having our high-quality mobile apps enter the foreign markets.”

Those who are selected to take part in the global project will receive information about the overseas smartphone application markets so that they can localize the apps, according to KT officials. They will also be able to get additional consulting.
