Local firms are moving quickly to present their fourth-generation mobile communication network technology Long Term Evolution at the global mobile industry show in Barcelona this week.

Samsung Electronics and KT Corp. announced on Sunday that they will cooperate with global chipmaker Intel to test the new LTE technology at the 2011 Mobile World Congress from Feb. 14-17.

The next generation mobile communication technology comes from the Cloud Communication Center that integrates the firms’ cloud computing technologies with mobile telecommunication systems.

The service could enable people to improve the network’s flow of data, while cutting down on the costs of investment and operation, according to Samsung and KT officials.

“The LTE CCC system, which is the first attempt in the world to apply the cloud computing concept to the 4G network, is a new solution that is a combination of KT’s cloud computing experience and the advanced skills of Samsung and Intel,” said Pyo Hyun-myung, president of KT’s mobile business group.

In a related move, SK Telecom, the country’s top mobile carrier, is also preparing to publicize its platforms and LTE solution technologies in overseas markets at the European mobile industry show.

With a theme of “Momentum for smart network and open platform,” it has established an exhibition hall to display its 19 different platforms and next generation 4G network.

Noted to be the only local telecom firm to set up an exhibition hall at the event attended by some 1,300 companies worldwide, it will showcase augmented reality skills and 3-D magic book service for children, its officials said.

Such services are expected to grab the attention of children by enabling the images in the books to pop up when it is shown through a smartphone’s camera.

The real-time broadcasting service, which is affordable for it runs on the Wi-Fi networks, is also among the highlighted technologies of the local telecom giant.

The company plans to go a step further by letting the word out overseas about its cloud-based smart cloud access network.

Meanwhile, the three local telecoms ― KT, SKT and LG Uplus ― added that they are all planning to test the 4G network LTE technology in the country’s capital beginning in July.
