U.S. investor Warren Buffett will arrive in South Korea Sunday on a trip that includes a meeting with President Lee Myung-bak.

   The chairman and CEO of U.S. conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway will arrive in Daegu, a city located some 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul, to attend the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday of a company owned and directed by Berkshire Hathaway.

   Daegu-Tech, a metal-cutter manufacturing firm, is a local unit of Israel-based International Metalworking Companies, 80 percent of whose stake was purchased by Berkshire Hathaway in 2006.

   After the ceremony, Buffett will attend other various events hosted by Daegu Mayor Kim Bum-il before heading to Seoul for a meeting with the South Korean president.

   The meeting between Lee and Buffett comes at a request from the U.S. investor, an official at the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae earlier said.

   The two are expected to discuss global economic conditions and the impact of Japan's troubles from the powerful earthquake and tsunami on the global economy.

워런 버핏, 20일 밤 대구공항 입국

‘투자의 귀재’ 워런 버핏이 20일 오후 9시 자신의 전용기를 타고 대구공항에 입국한다.

버핏은 21일 대구 달성군에 있는 절삭공구업체인 대구텍 제2공장 기공식에 참석하기 위해 대구를 찾는다. 버핏의 방한은 지난 2007년 대구텍 방문 이후 두 번째다.

대구텍은 이스라엘의 절삭공구 전문기업인 IMC(International Metalworking Companies)의 계열사로 2006년 버크셔 해서웨이가 IMC의 지분 80%를 인수하면서 버핏이 경영권을 갖게 됐다.

IMC는 올해 대구텍 제2공장에 1000억원을 추가 투자해 최첨단 장비와 로봇을 이용한 자동화 시스템을 구축, 고부가가치 신제품을 생산해 전 세계에 공급할 계획이다.

버핏의 방한을 맞아 대구공항에서는 환영행사가 마련된다. 김범일 시장이 직접 비행기 트랩에서 버핏을 맞이하고 공항 청사에서는 10인조 실내악단의 연주와 2011 대구세계육상선수권대회를 홍보하는 퍼포먼스가 펼쳐진다.

버핏은 대구공항에 도착한 뒤 곧바로 인터불고 호텔로 이동하고 다음 날 김 시장과 동행해 대구텍 시설 투어, 착공식, 기자회견, 대구스타디움 투어 등을 차례로 마친 뒤 청와대에서 이명박 대통령을 만날 예정이다.
