‘GPS is allowed to find cheating husband’: U.S. court

A New Jersey court has approved of a woman’s use of GPS to track down her suspicious husband.

The woman hired a private investigator to follow her husband to find out whether he was having an affair. But when her husband, Kenneth Villanova, kept managing to avoid the investigator, he told her to place a tracking device in her husband’s car, an online-version of Forbes said, quoting local reports.

Two weeks after the installment, it revealed that Villanova’s car was sitting in the driveway of another woman.

Villanova sued his wife for invading his privacy and causing emotional distress. But judges ruled against him, saying that he had not seek medical treatment.

Also, the judges said Villanova had no right to expect privacy since the GPS tracked him on public streets. Judges said that there was no direct evidence that the GPS tracked the movement of Villanova “into a location that was not in public view.”

Local reports said that private investigators will now possibly use trackers in a variety of incidents.

Private investigators could use GPS for insurance fraud investigations, background checks and child custody cases, it said.
