SKC Inc., a South Korean industrial film maker, said Wednesday that it has completed an ethylene vinyl acetate plant in Georgia in the United States.

The plant will annually produce 12,000 tons of EVA, a key component in making solar cells, raising the company’s total annual capacity of EVA to 36,000 tons per year, SKC said in a statement.

It has two EVA plants in South Korea.

SKC said that it plans to build five additional overseas plants to produce an annual 66,000 tons of the material by 2015, becoming the second-biggest EVA manufacturer in the world with a market share of 25 percent.

Its Georgia plant already has production lines for polyester and polyurethane, according to the company.

“Solar energy is the only alternative to replace fossil fuels and nuclear energy,” SKC Chief Executive Park Jang-seo was quoted as saying in the statement. “SKC will focus on developing materials for solar cells.”
