UFO sighting reports in the Texas ended in an anticlimactic way after the objects turned to be paper lanterns, U.S. media reported Monday

According to the local sheriff’s office, the “fireballs in the sky” which incited UFO stir were actually Chinese paper lanterns from a nearby wedding.

The “fireballs” were first reported to police around 8:30 p.m. Saturday. About a dozen locals and police officers responding to the report witnessed several orange lights moving slowly in the sky.

Police contacted various organizations in charge of weather airplanes, and even UFOs but none of them could offer an explanation for the mysterious lights.

After the sheriff’s office issued a statement on the fireballs, local residents contacted them and said the lights were from paper lanterns from their wedding ceremony. Such lanterns are made of paper and candles, which provide heat that lifts them.

The newlyweds apologized for the confusion and sheriff advised the public to alert the police before lighting paper lanterns in the future.

그러던 와중에 보안관 사무실에서 낸 공지를 보고 한 지역 주민이 “불빛은 자신의 결혼식에서 쓰인 중국식 종이 전등”이라고 제보를 했다. 이러한 전등은 종이와 양초로 들어있으며, 양초의 열기로 공중에 뜰 수 있다고 한다.

신혼 부부는 혼란에 대해 사과의 뜻을 표했으며, 보안관은 주민들에게 앞으로 이러한 전등을 쓸 일이 있으면 경찰에 미리 알려달라고 당부했다.
