A public foundation on Sunday said a booklet of the yearly schedules of preschools and primary schools and terminology used in them are currently available for parents of multicultural families.

The Korean Institute for Healthy Family, a state-affiliated organization working to help families in crises and multicultural families, said it translated the booklet into five different languages -- English, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and Cambodian -- and began to distribute them at 217 government-run multicultural family support centers around the country in late August.

The booklet explains the meaning and the time of schools' major scheduled events, such as graduation and entrance ceremonies, summer and winter vacations, the election of class presidents, and midterms and finals.

The information is also available at the government-run portal service for supporting multicultural families (www.liveinkorea.kr).

Starting in December, various school letters for parents of students will also be made available in the five languages, the foundation added.

At present, the letters provide information in Korean on lunch menus, upcoming activities to prevent school violence, rules on the use of mobile phones and a question-and-answer form asking if students have received all preventive shots required for their age. (Yonhap)
