Honda recalling 46,000 vans to fix rear doors

DETROIT (AP) _ Honda is recalling nearly 46,000 Odyssey minivans in the U.S. because the rear doors can fall on people unexpectedly, and have on at least two occasions.

The problem affects minivans from the 2008 and 2009 model years that have power lift gates.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says on its website that gas can leak out of the struts that support the lift gates. The doors could close unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injuries.

Honda says the problem has caused two minor injuries. The company will replace both power liftgate struts for free.

Honda will send letters to van owners next month with instructions about the recall.

일본 자동차업체 혼다가 다음달 미국에서 미니밴 `오딧세이' 4만5천747대에 대한 리콜을 실시할 것이라고 미 고속도로교통안 전국(NHTSA)이 22일(현지시간) 밝혔다.

리콜 대상은 2008, 2009년형 오딧세이로, 뒤편 화물칸 자동문 `파워 테일게이트'에서 이상이 발견된 데 따른 것이다.

혼다측은 미국 외에 캐나다, 독일, 중동 등에서도 같은 차종에 대한 리콜을 실시할 예정이며 총 5만1천633대가 대상이라고 설명했다.

NHTSA는 이날 인터넷 홈페이지에 올린 발표문에서 "이번 결함은 파워 테일게이트 장치에서 가스가 새어나와 문이 저절로 열릴 수 있다는 지적에 따른 것"이라고 밝혔다.

혼다는 지난해 12월 에어백 결함으로 전세계에서 어코드, 시빅, CR-V 등 30만4천대를 리콜했으며, 5월에도 소형차 피트 등 총 93만6천대를 리콜했었다.
