South Korean pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin of the Los Angeles Dodgers is well on his way to recovery from a shoulder operation, his domestic management company said Thursday.

A-Spec Corp. said in a press release that Ryu, who underwent season-ending surgery on his left shoulder in May, began following a strict diet in June along with some cardio work. He started playing catch in early October and is also doing weight training, the company added.

"He has been speeding up his rehab," A-Spec added. "He's been working really hard. On behalf of the player, we'd like to thank the fans for supporting him through his recovery so far. He hasn't been down on himself, and things have gone well."

Ryu, who won 28 games over the last two seasons for the Dodgers, didn't pitch a single inning in 2015. He reported some pains in his pitching shoulder in spring training and decided to go under the knife in May.

Ryu is scheduled to return to South Korea on Saturday with a trainer from the Dodgers and to continue his rehab program for three weeks at home.

Ryu, 28, signed a six-year deal worth $36 million with the Dodgers before the 2013 season. He's the first player to make the jump from the Korea Baseball Organization to Major League Baseball via posting. (Yonhap)
