LG Electronics said Tuesday its newly-named proprietary intelligent voice recognition app “Q Voice” will be ready in English by the first half of next year.

While competing with other personal assistant voice tools like Apple’s Siri, Samsung’s S Voice and Google, the company also said it will launch the app in European and other Asian countries following its release in English, said Sohn Jin-ho, head of LG’s Future IT and R&D Lab.

“Korea is the nation that is leading the trend, which is why we will expand the service to other countries from here,” he said in a media briefing. “It will be offered in other European and Asian languages in line with our schedule later.”

The voice tool will be available on the company’s two smartphones ― Optimus LTE 2 and Optimus Vu ― through software upgrades and will be embedded in the firm’s upcoming “flagship smartphones,” said Son.

“The tool can also be used in the company’s robotic vacuum cleaner Roboking and the televisions and it will be expanded continuously in the future,” he said.

Company officials also tested the voice recognition capability between the three voice tools ― Q Voice, Siri and S Voice ― at the event, claiming its superiority in picking up Korean sentences and commands.

“Because we have a strong platform base, the capability could be doubled compared to others,” said Son. “In global terms, we believe we could form a more competitive engine through our cooperation with Google.”

The company’s Q Voice tool is currently being offered on LG’s Android-powered mobile phones.
