Some conglomerates and financial groups rolled up their sleeves to support those who are victims of the typhoons that recently hit the nation.

Hyundai Motor Group chairman Chung Mong-koo donated 3 billion won ($2.6 million) on Tuesday to an association helping disaster victims.

The donated money will be spent aiding the victims of typhoons Bolaven and Tembin, which battered the nation’s west and southwest late last month, company officials said.

In addition, the automaker plans to purchase fruits and vegetables produced in the typhoon-hit area and donate them to poor elderly people and the disabled.

Hyundai Oilbank, one of the nation’s leading refineries, took a similar action to support the typhoon victims.

The company’s charity foundation said it donated 100 million won to the disaster relief association.

The fund was collected as the company’s executives and employees have donated 1 percent of their salaries each month via payroll deductions to the foundation.

KB Financial Group also donated 500 million won for a similar purpose.
