Say a salesman is on the road to meet a client who is hours away. Then he suddenly receives a call from his boss, who asks him to immediately take care of another client’s request that was made via email.

But to do that, he may need to use a PC, meaning that he will have to lug around a laptop while he is out on call.

KT’s new “spider” concept might make his job easier.

KT’s Spider laptop is a dummy laptop with an 11.6-inch display screen that uses Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S3 LTE to play the brain role.

The Spider has quick keys that link it to the smartphone’s messaging, contact list, registered email and music player with a single push. It only takes about three seconds to boot since it does not run on separate software.

The Spider can run for four hours when fully charged.

“It’s currently compatible with Samsung’s Galaxy S3 LTE, but we’re also in talks to have it ready for LG Electronics’ Optimus LTE 2,” said a KT official. “It’s our strategy to create a perfect office environment.”

Weighing 950 grams and with a thickness of 14.9 millimeters, London-based Vodafone has shown interest in the Spider laptop and held a meeting with KT executives at the IFA electronics trade show in Berlin earlier this month.

The Spider is currently priced at 297,000 won ($263).

KT also plans to roll out a cheaper model priced at around 150,000 won within the year.
