Hanwha Eagles’ first baseman Kim Tae-kyun is the highest-paid pro baseball player in Korea this year, according to statistics released by the Korea Baseball Organization last Thursday.

Kim’s annual contract with the Eagles landed him a 1.6 billion won ($1.3 million) salary. Broken down by position, the highest-paid pitcher was Kia Tigers’ Yoon Suk-min with 1.25 billion won, while Samsung Lions’ Lee Seung-yeop took top spot among designated hitters with 1 billion won, the same as SK Wyverns’ third baseman Choi Jeong and Lotte Giants catcher Kang Min-ho.

Outfielders were led by Park Yong-taek and Lee Byung-kyu of LG Twins, who each received 800 million won, while the highest-paid shortstop was Kim Jae-ho of Doosan Bears at 410 million won.
