Psy’s music video for his new single “Gentleman” reached another milestone on YouTube by setting the record for most views in a day, the video-sharing website announced Tuesday.

“Psy already holds the record for the most viewed video of all time -- Gangnam Style now has an incredible 1.5 billion views -- but now he has also set the record for the most views ever in a single day with the over 38 million ‘Gentleman’ achieved on April 14th,” YouTube said.

The previous record for most views in a single day was held by “KONY 2012,” a documentary film which aims to publicize the crimes of African warlord Joseph Kony.

“Gentleman” was an immediate hit upon release, breaking the YouTube record for most views on the day of its release. As of Tuesday, it had garnered well over 206 million views.

While the follow-up to the smash hit “Gangnam Style” was widely anticipated to have an impact, the success of “Gentleman” exceeded most expectations. The video surpassed 100 million worldwide views in less than four days, a feat that took “Gangnam Style” nearly two months.

The song’s success was not confined to YouTube either; it debuted on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart at No. 12 last Thursday. Last year, the South Korean singer’s breakout hit “Gangnam Style” entered the charts at No.64 and catapulted to No.2 spot, where it stayed for seven straight weeks.
